Canada’s Parents & Grandparents Program Opens July 28: Here’s What You Need to Know

The 2025 PGP intake isn’t open to new applicants. Instead, IRCC will draw from the
existing 2020 pool of sponsors, targeting about
17,860 invitations. The goal is to receive
10,000 complete applications.

Who Can Sponsor a Parent or Grandparent?
To be eligible to sponsor under this program, you need to:
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or registered under the Indian Act
- Be 18 years or older
- Live in Canada
- Meet the Minimum Necessary Income (MNI) for the last 3 years
- Commit to financially supporting the sponsored family members for 20 years (10 years if you’re in Quebec)

- You’ll also need to provide police certificates, medical exam proof, and identity documents for each person included.

- Renewals for up to 10 years
